bica bites, vol. 01

bica crew,

The way you’ve showed up to support good food and good people in the first few weeks of 2024 has been unreal.

You ate. You built community on the patio. And you even helped us launch a whole new restaurant.

Here are some things that made us happy along the way.

First, (always.), the food

We tried something new:

soft scrambled eggs

menemen sauce | chile oil | pickled fresnos | cilantro sumac

Our friends visited, bearing cheese

From all over Europe. And we served it up to you at a special edition BYOB.

As the seasons change, so too does our yogurt

A little insider secret, it’s among our best-sellers. This picture is from back when the cara cara oranges, blood orange and oro blanco was still flowing. Now, we have the poached pears and pomegranate. But we’re always mixing it up.

In the community

We were delighted to cook with the freshest ingredients in town, the veggies from Second Chance’s Youth Garden.

  • The occasion: the dedication of beautiful murals at the garden. bica chefs prepped soups and salads using fresh beets and other ingredients

  • An update: The flooding that’s hit much of San Diego was particularly hard on the Encanto neighborhood where we cooked. The garden itself was damaged and the organization is raising funds that will help toward building a retaining wall and securing the future of the garden. Help out if you can.

The patio was alive all month

Our events brought people together and it warmed our hearts on the chilly days to see you come from near and far for our food.

This is why we built bica. To cook for you.

Oh, forgot to mention

We opened another restaurant.

Meat Butcher’s Plate! (see what we did there?)

It’s a meat-forward rotisserie house situated in National City’s Market on 8th food hall in the heart of the South Bay.

We had three straight days of partying to get things going and would love to welcome you down for lunch or dinner.

We’re open from 11-9 and you can catch many familiar faces from the patio behind the counter and in the cozy couches inside the food hall.
